GAGE End User License Agreement

GAGE Sampler and GAGE Player

Written in plain English on purpose.

This agreement is between you and Style Audio, LLC ("we", "us"). It covers GAGE Sampler (the standalone app and the AU and VST3 plug-ins), GAGE Player, and everything that comes with them. By installing or using GAGE you agree to it. If you don't agree, don't install or use GAGE; if you bought it, see Refunds.

1Words used here

  • GAGE: the GAGE Sampler and GAGE Player software, its updates, and its documentation.
  • Content: the templates, instruments, samples, MIDI files and other material that come with GAGE, that we publish later, or that other users publish through GAGE.
  • Templates: GAGE template files (.gtp, and the templates inside .gagepack files).
  • Your Music: audio you record, render, stream or perform using GAGE.

2Your license to use GAGE

GAGE is licensed, not sold. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use GAGE as described here.

  • Paid license (Lite or Pro). Your license key works on up to two (2) computers you own or control at a time. You can move it to a new computer by removing it from an old one. Features depend on your tier (Lite or Pro), as described on our website.
  • Trial. Without a license key, GAGE runs as a 7-day trial with some features turned off (such as saving templates, recording and exporting) and occasional audible noise. After the trial ends GAGE stops making sound until a license key is entered.
  • Beta versions. Test builds may be unlocked until a set date, may have bugs, and may stop working after that date.
  • GAGE Player is free. It may be used on any device you own, subject to the rules of the app store you got it from.

3Your Music

Your Music is yours. We don't claim ownership of it, and we don't take royalties from it.

  • Music made with your own templates is entirely yours, with no credit required.
  • Music made with a MoonTech template (the ones whose names start with "MT-") or with a free template someone published through GAGE is licensed to you under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0). You may use it for anything (streams, videos, games, albums, commercial work) as long as you give credit, for example:

    For a template made by another user, credit that user as the template's creator.
  • The instruments and samples that come with GAGE may be used in Your Music without credit or royalties.

The CC BY 4.0 license applies only to the music, never to the template files themselves (see section 4).

4Templates

Templates are licensed to you for use inside GAGE only. Templates you did not make remain the property of us or of the user who made them. You may not:

  • extract, unlock, decrypt or convert a template, or read its contents outside GAGE;
  • copy, share, sell, upload or distribute a template except through the sharing features GAGE provides (such as Export to GAGE Player or the template library);
  • recreate a template's settings in other software, or publish its settings in any form (including screenshots, text or video made to reproduce it outside GAGE).

Templates you make yourself are yours. GAGE saves them in the same protected format so they work everywhere GAGE runs; share them through GAGE.

4aTemplates are made in GAGE

Templates are made with GAGE's own controls. You may not create, generate or change a template file with other software, with scripts, or with automated tools, and you may not ask GAGE to open a template that was made that way.

You can still ask anyone, or any tool, for advice about how to use GAGE's controls. You can still steer GAGE live with the OSC messages we document. Templates we ship are made with our own tools.

5Instruments and samples

The instruments and samples that come with GAGE are for making music with GAGE. You may not extract them, redistribute them, sell them, or use them (alone or remixed) to make sample libraries, sound packs, virtual instruments or anything else that competes with them. Some included sounds are public-domain (CC0) recordings made by others (see Instrument Credits in the app); nothing here limits rights you already have in those public-domain originals.

6Publishing templates

When the GAGE template library is available, if you publish a template as free through GAGE:

  • you let other GAGE users download it and use it inside GAGE, under section 4;
  • you agree that music made with it is licensed to everyone under CC BY 4.0, with credit to you as the template's creator and to us;
  • you confirm you have the right to publish everything in it (for example, that any instrument it uses may be shared);
  • we may remove any template at any time.

This can't be taken back once someone has made music with your template: the CC BY license on that music stays in place.

7Things you may not do

You may not: share, sell or publish your license key; use GAGE on more computers than your license allows; rent, lend or resell GAGE; remove, bypass or disable its license checks or content protection; create or change template files outside GAGE (see 4a); reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble GAGE except where the law allows it despite this agreement; or use GAGE to break the law or anyone else's rights. Neither GAGE Sampler Pro nor GAGE Sampler Lite licences can ever be resold, for any reason.

8Activation, data and privacy

Activating a license key needs an internet connection once; after that GAGE works offline and checks in with our license server now and then. For this we store your license key, your email address, a hashed ID for each computer (not the computer's hardware ID), and a hashed form of your IP address. GAGE Player can send a crash report if you choose to (or turn on automatic sending); it contains technical details and no personal information. 9Updates

We may release updates. Some may be required for GAGE to keep working with new operating systems or with our license server. We may change or remove features.

10Refunds

If you're not happy with GAGE, you can get a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Purchases are processed by our reseller, Paddle.com, which issues refunds on our behalf. A refund ends your license: remove GAGE from your computers.

11Ending this agreement

This agreement lasts until it ends. You can end it by deleting GAGE. It ends automatically if you break it, and we may deactivate the license key involved. Sections 3 (for music you already made), 4, 4a, 5 and 12 to 15 continue after it ends.

12Ownership

GAGE and its Content (other than Your Music and templates you made) belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. We keep all rights not expressly given to you here.

13No warranty

GAGE is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise it will be error-free or that it will meet your needs. Always keep backups of your work.

14Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or work, arising from GAGE. Our total liability for anything related to GAGE is limited to the amount you paid for it. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you; nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.

15General

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, and disputes go to the courts of Los Angeles County, California. If part of it can't be enforced, the rest still applies. We may update this agreement; the version shown when you install or update GAGE applies from then on. This is the whole agreement between us about GAGE.
